In the United States Army, the S1 department is responsible for all force structure, manpower, personnel, and administration requirements for the regiment. The department provides recommendations to command staff in resourcing current manpower requirements and in determining future organizational structure. S1 also advises and assists command staff in the management of personnel, personnel replacements, discipline, morale and welfare by developing personnel and administrative programs, policies, and procedures to support the commander's goals and objectives.
Mission
In the 7th Cavalry Gaming Regiment, S1 is similarly responsible for the administration of personnel. Material contributions are in record keeping, organization and policy. Unique to our virtual community, S1 also has responsibility for the visual representation of each trooper as a unique individual, through standards conformant avatars and signatures. S1 is divided into four sub-departments: MILPACS, Uniforms Shop, Signature Shop and Regimental Publishing Directorate
Composition
MILPACs
Uniform Shop
Signature Shop
Signatures are a popular addition to a trooper's forum profile. Being a virtual community, we tend to recognize one another by name and by voice. Signatures help to bring a bit of unique visual identity and character into our brotherhood. Signatures are not mandatory for display on the forums, and the Signature Shop's business is all by request. The shop is responsible for taking requests submitted via the forums, and producing high quality graphic art for display as personal signatures.
The Signature Shop NCOIC is responsible for oversight of the sub-department. This includes maintaining the organization of the Signature Shop, performing quality control spot checks, and ensuring that requests are processed within resonable time tables. Shop personnel are assigned based on an evaluation of their ability to produce quality signatures. Skills in graphic arts software is a must-have to be a member of the shop. Each artist is given a section on the forums, where requests for his work can be submitted. They are expected to display some examples of their work in this area, to give prospective clients a good idea of their style.
All signature files are archived in a shared folder on Dropbox. This ensures continuity of signature work when an incremental update is requested, such as a promotion or unit transfer. Signatures are property of the Requester after the finished work has been accepted.
Operations
The S1 Operations department is responsible for maintenance and tracking of eligibility for Enlisted Promotions, Good Conduct Medals and American Defense Medals.
The Operations NCOIC provides the main oversight of the sub-department. Clerks are assigned and are responsible for the bulk of the maintenance at this level. This includes watching the forums for certain types of posts, and transcribing the proper information into the tracker of the soldiers within their area of responsibility. For all the countless times your work has gone without notice, let this wiki entry remind us all of our gratitude for this service. "We appreciate your effort on our behalf."
Policies and Procedures
The S1 Department has various policies and procedures governing all aspects of military administration.
