Introduction

The 7th Cavalry Gaming Regiment, often referred to as "7Cav" is a long standard Military Realism (MILSIM) unit that primarily plays first person military shooter/simulation games. The Regiment was founded in October of 2002, making it one of the oldest clans in the areas the Regiment covers. This page will introduce new or prospective members to the capabilities of the Regiment, traditions, history, and other introductory information. The 7th Cavalry Gaming Regiment has always been run with a military structure, similar to the United States Army. However, the 7th Cavalry Gaming Regiment makes a number of changes to represent the structure in a manner that is compatible with a casual video game environment. Since founding, military simulation and realism principles have been employed. The earliest games played by the 7th Cavalry included Call of Duty 1, and 2. However, the 7th Cavalry Gaming Regiment began to see large growth beginning in 2008. When adopting Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the Regiment saw greatly increase recruiting. Along this time, the Regiment began to play Arma. In 2009, the Regiment adopted Arma 2 on release, and 1st Battalion was activated. The 7th Cavalry Gaming Regiment has played a number of games including Call of Duty, Arma, Squad, Hell Let Loose, Day of Defeat, Planetside, and others. However, all of these games have been run with an emphasis on tactical realism. Further, the Regiment is always looking to expand its presence through new popular games that support tactical team-based gameplay. Membership in the Regiment has fluctuated. The Regiment generally has between 300-350 active members at any one time.

Order of Battle

Currently the Regiment is divided into two distinct Battalions, supported by a range of departments.

1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment (1-7 CAV)

The 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment is fully dedicated to the Arma 3 Area of Operations. It has three companies with distinct roles that form a Combined-Arms force. It is commanded by a Colonel or Lieutenant Colonel, supported by a range of expert and specialist Staff. Each Company or Troop is commanded by a Major or Captain. During war, the Battalion is designated as a "Combined Arms Battalion" or CAB, and forms part of a Task-Force or is assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division (1 CD), as part of a larger combined arms effort.

Alpha Company 1-7 CAV Bravo Troop 1-7 CAV Charlie Company 1-7 CAV
Alpha Company is the Aviation Company in the 1st Battalion. It provides both fixed wing and rotary wing Army Aviators. They operate a wide range of aircraft, including the UH-60M Helicopter, AH-64D Attack Helicopter, MH-6 Littlebird Helicopter, CH-47F Heavy Lift Helicopter, as well as a wide range of fixed-wing platforms including the C-130J and A-10. Bravo Troop is a composite Troop comprised of Armored, Cavalry Scout, and Health Service Support/Combat Service Support. It has 3 Platoons with each Platoon with one of these capabilities. Bravo Troop Soldiers primarily operate the M1A2 Main Battle Tank, M2A3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle, and M1126/M1127 Stryker. Charlie Company is a Light Infantry Company that specializes in Airborne and Air Assault Operations. It is tasked to provide a high readiness force to the 1st Battalion through operational mobility. It has 2 Platoons of Light Infantry.

2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment (2-7 CAV)

The 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment currently plays both Hell Let Loose, with 2 Companies, and Squad, with 1 Company. All Companies have a combined-arms focus. Like the 1st Battalion, the 2d Battalion is commanded by a Colonel or Lieutenant Colonel, with Major or Captain Company Commanders. The 2d Battalion is the original Battalion in the Regiment, and has played all games prior to Arma since the Regiment's inception in 2002.

Alpha Company 2-7 CAV Charlie Company 2-7 CAV Echo Company 2-7 CAV
Alpha Company is a combined-arms Company assigned to the Hell Let Loose (HLL) Area of Operations. It currently employs Infantry, Armor, Engineer, and Artillery Soldiers in A WW2 environment. Charlie Company is also a combined-arms Company assigned to the Hell Let Loose (HLL) Area of Operations. It also currently employs Infantry, Armor, Engineer, and Artillery Soldiers. Secondary Billets

Secondary billets are assignments where you can volunteer to give back to the Regiment if you choose to. It's a long list, but essentially these are billets that cover off the crucial duties of keeping the lights on. Here are a just a few examples:

1. S1 Department

  • MILPACS clerk - these fine individuals keep our service records updated.
  • Uniforms clerk - these talented people update our uniforms. (Example)

2. S2 Security Operations

  • Military Police - these underappreciated folks help us dealing with troublemakers.

3. S3 Operations and Training Department

  • Instructor Pilot - these skilled people teach new members how to fly the Cav Way.
  • Instructors - We have a lot of courses in the Cav. We have a lot of highly qualified instructors.
  • Jumpmaster - The Black Hats teach people how to jump out of perfectly functioning aircraft.
  • Operations Staff - there are a lot of these fine folks. They do all the background work required to generate large-scale operations for our members to enjoy.

4. S5 Public Relations

  • S5 Public Relations Staff - these people coordinate our image on public discussion boards and social media platforms.
  • S5 Media Staff - these skilled people create videos for our YouTube channel and for internal use.

5. Regimental Recruiting Department

  • Recruiter - these dedicated individuals speak to potential recruits, ensuring they know what we're about before they join and they play on our servers looking to bring new members into the family.

6. Recruit Training Command

  • Drill Instructor - These knowledgeable members give new recruits a taste of what's to come and get them sorted out with the basics they need to play their game in the Regiment.

Operations

We run operations at least once a week in every game. In Arma, this means 60-80 people going at it in air assault, airborne and mechanized/armored operations with supporting assets such as heavy weapons, mortars, close-air and even logistical support. In Squad and Post-Scriptum this means big groups of Cav members duking it out against other live players in a tactical, objective-oriented mindset. Our Squad / Hell Let Loose / Post Scriptum operations can be anything from 9v9 CQB scrimmages, to full scale 80-man ops against other units, with other units.

Training

We have one of the most comprehensive, optional training programs around. In Arma alone, we have over 30 training courses that are run regularly in our schools. We have the following schools, all with their own courses, instructors and training paths:

  • Aviation Center of Excellence
  • The Cavalry School
  • The School of Infantry
  • The Airborne School
  • Ranger School

What does the Airborne School teach you ask? Basic Airborne, Jumpmaster, Pathfinder. Upon completion of the Pathfinder evaluation, you can receive your Pathfinder Badge. This is just one example of many. For a complete list go here: List of Training Courses

Progression

For those that want it, you can progress in your primary billet. A community like this needs strong leaders to keep it moving forward. Leadership billets are earned through a combination of time in service, training and merit. Troopers are grouped into sections/squads, squads are grouped into platoons, platoons into companies or troops and companies into a Battalion. Each level requires leaders to organize and drive it.

Community

Last, but definitely not least, we offer community. In any large group of people, not everyone will get along or love each other, but we are bound together by our love for the community. Even in a short time with us you will see examples of people coming together to help a brother or sister out in times of need. It's hard to get to know everyone, but when someone puts the call out, we come running. Garry Owen!
