I live in the 7th, and the 7th Lives in me.—Command Sergeant Major Ronnie "Coldblud" Bussey
Ronnie “Coldblud” Bussey (14 September 1946 – 27 September 2012) was a member of the 7th Cavalry Regiment and recipient of the James "Krazee" Foster Lifetime Achievement Medal. The first Command Sergeant Major of the 7th Cavalry, Ron Cold laid the foundations and principles of leadership for which all 7th Cavalry non-commissioned officers strive for to this current day. Non-commissioned officers who portray the leadership and personality qualities of Ron Cold are presented the Ronnie "Coldblud" Bussey Lifetime Achievement Medal in his honor.
7th Cavalry Service
Ron Cold enlisted in the 7th Cavalry on June 20, 2010 into 2nd Battalion which consisted of many games at the time. One of which was America’s Army (A/2-7), a game made by the US Army for recruitment purposes that grew to have a considerable following, it is through America's Army that Ron Cold discovered the 7th Cavalry. Upon promotion to the rank of Specialist, Ron Cold took secondary billets as a S1 Milpacs clerk and as a Drill Instructor, and later as Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of S5 Public Relations. Ron Cold served in these billets with exceptional distinction throughout his entire time in 7th Cavalry. A veteran of the Vietnam War, the potential of Ron Cold was seen by the founder of the 7th Cavalry, General of the Army Aaron Plumbly, who promoted Ron Cold to Command Sergeant Major of the 7th Cavalry due to his 20 years of military service on the 17th of December 2010. It was on this day his phrase “I live in the 7th, and the 7th Lives in me” was coined.
In early 2011, Ron Cold was diagnosed with cancer. The nature of Cold’s condition was not disclosed until later when effects started to show after suffering a fractured forearm. Ron Cold lived a further year until his passing on the 27th of September, 2012. On that day a Garry Owen was called to share the news of his passing. A memorial was held shortly after with an attendance of roughly 200+ members. For his contributions and actions in the 7th Cavalry, he was awarded the James "Krazee" Foster Lifetime Achievement Medal posthumously.
Legacy
Ron Cold is remembered by the 7th Cavalry for his wisdom, leadership ability, kind nature, proficiency, and dedication to his duty. Ron Cold often shared war stories to his brothers and attended real life meetups with other 7th Cavalry members when opportunities presented. Ron Cold is often noted for spending his nights processing milpacs and playing games such as Battlefield, America’s Army, and Call of Duty with his close friends. Ron Cold is also noted for his desire to continue his work on the 7th Cavalry, even during his final days.
The Ronnie "Coldblud" Bussey Lifetime Achievement Medal was created in his honor and is presented to Non-Commissioned Officers who display the traits and values as exhibited by Ron Cold throughout their service to the 7th Cavalry.
