Section Staff

Leadership Expectations

Section Staff is the backbone of the 7th Cavalry. It is one of, if not *the most important* billet that someone can hold. Section staff are the first face every week a trooper sees and hears from. Section staff are the ones that build the brotherhood from the ground up. Without their firm foundation, the 7th Cavalry would be a shell of what it is today. Take this into careful consideration when thinking of becoming a member of section staff. It is a large responsibility given to those who want to lead, learn, and grow both themselves and the community around them.

  • Set the tone and lead by example. You cannot expect those below you to do what is expected if you, as their leader, are unwilling to do the same. Be early, be prepared, be attentive, be responsive, and be active.
  • Show up and be present to foster and build relationships with all troopers within the section. If you are active and engaging, your troopers will be more active and engaged in the community. In short, foster the brotherhood.
  • Encourage troopers to further grow by joining operations, classes, and S-Shops if they have the time and drive.
  • Look for opportunities to advance your leadership capabilities. If you are not serious about becoming a better leader, self-evaluation should be conducted.
  • Speak with your platoon leaders; they are there to guide section staff in becoming strong leaders.
  • Be confident, humble, and honest with yourself, your troopers, and your platoon staff.
  • SLs: Train your ASLs and other troopers to take on more leadership roles. Utilize the FTL role and don’t hesitate to help someone who needs a nudge out of their comfort zone to begin their leadership journey.

Administrative Expectations

  • Weekly, section staff should create, update (including rank promotions and changes to the COC), and post their roll call on time. Allow troopers a full Cav Week to sign roll call.
  • Each SL and ASL should create and conduct at least 1 section practice per month if the Platoon or Company Run SPs at the same time. If not, section staff should create and conduct an SP every week, with at least 1 SP per month handled by the ASL. SPs should be engaging, fun, and informative. You have an hour each week to captivate your trooper’s attention—make it an experience they want to keep coming back for. *(Note: this does not mean creating mini-operations for SPs)*
  • Ensure SOPs are followed at all times, including during SPs and operations. Bandages are out for start and end.
  • Audit trooper forum avatars to ensure they match the rank. Help troopers with updating their avatars.
  • OTQ Awards: Sections should evaluate each trooper and submit a recommendation with justification for Trooper of the Quarter to their respective platoon staffs.
  • Counseling: Provide guidance and counseling to section members as required, including assisting troopers with PAFs and LOA requests.
  • Admin the public servers when playing on 7Cav servers (SGTs and above).
  • Section splits are an inevitable part of growth in the Cav. When a section reaches 14 members, a 30-day timer starts. Within this period, plan how your section will split into 2 sections. If you lose a trooper during this time, the clock stops. If a 14th member joins, the countdown restarts. Splits can happen before 30 days if agreed upon by the CoC. This should be coordinated with your platoon staff.

FTL Notes (Non-Official Billet)

  • The FTL assists in running the squad during a section practice.
  • Sometimes this is done by the ASL, but can be delegated to the FTL if necessary.
  • FTL is a perfect spot to gauge potential and train future section staff.
  • FTL holds no official billet in the Cav; this gives the position flexibility to be adapted into any role the section needs, whether as another Tank Commander, Squad Leader, or Cadre Commander.
