Introduction

The following is a list of responsibilities and roles for all positions within the S7 Department, and for the Staff and Instructors of all Schools. This is a general guideline as additional duties may be required. All S7 members should also be given an ICS (Initial Counseling Statement) upon entry into the department or new leadership positions that further clarify expectations for their position.

Roles and Responsibilities

Each role has a defined list of duties and authority. The highest authority in the S7 Department is the S7 First-In-Charge (1IC). This person is responsible to advise the Regimental Commander on all matters pertaining to training, and to exercise control of all training schools. The staff of the S7 Department report to the S7 1IC and the S7 2IC, who form the S7 HQ.

S7 Headquarters

The S7 HQ consists of the S7 1IC and 2IC and is in charge of all aspects of training, supervises each school under their command, and reports to the General Staff through the Regimental Command Sergeant Major.

Responsibilities

Responsibility Description
Lead Instructor Supervision The S7 HQ holds each Lead Instructor accountable for their specific school and the instructors under them. They ensure that each Lead Instructor keeps track of their instructors via school trackers (spreadsheets). The S7 HQ also ensures that courses are being run consistently within each school and instructor accountability is tracked and enforced. They also assist in the hiring and conduct an Initial Counselling Statement (ICS) for any Lead Instructor positions that become filled.
Training Supervision The S7 HQ ensures that all courses are being run on a regular or as needed basis at times that work for both North American and European members. The S7 HQ also ensures that each school has sufficient instructors to teach all assigned courses. If there are empty positions, S7 HQ assigns new instructors or delegates this duty to each Lead Instructor.
Course Development The S7 HQ monitors and supervises course development within each school. They provide feedback and ensure the proper class development cycles are being followed by course authors, developers, and Lead Instructors. They also ensure that when new courses are run as a demonstration that appropriate S7 personnel are present to observe the course. This includes S7 HQ, Lead Instructors, and/or Senior Instructors.
Reports and Returns The S7 HQ will keep the CSM informed about any relevant or serious department issues, class development, and actions being taken to improve or modify courses. All classes and instructor accountability data will be tracked and the information provided on all S7 Graduation posts recorded on the S7 Master Tracker. Each School will also maintain their own tracker, and the Lead Instructor is responsible unless this responsibility is delegated.

Lead Instructor

A Lead Instructor is the assigned Commander of a 7th Cavalry Gaming Regiment training school. They are in charge of all aspects of the operation of their school, and report to S7 HQ.

Responsibilities

Responsibility Description
Course Development As required, new courses will be developed to provide the necessary training to troopers and leaders in their respective games. New courses require a one-page proposal to be sent up the Aide to the CSM for review and approval. Upon approval by the Aide to the CSM, the proposal will be distributed to and reviewed by the Company/Battalion Staff of the affected MOS for approval. The intent is each Company/Battalion/MOS should have some buy-in and be able to provide some feedback on how the class can best serve their unit. When approval is received, the lesson plan and field manual must be developed and then go through the same approval process as with the proposal. When approval is received, a demonstration course must be run and observed by the Lead Instructor, Senior Instructor, and Aide to the CSM for final approval.
Maintenance of Existing Course Material Each Lead Instructor is responsible to ensure that the most current versions of lesson plans and field manuals are kept in a centralized area in the S7 Google Drive, that old versions are archived, and that lesson plans and field manuals are updated as necessary to keep up with game updates.
Course Scheduling Each course in a School must be run at least once monthly at a time that works for both North American and European time zones, unless otherwise approved by S7 HQ. If this isn't possible, a second serial of the course should be done to ensure that at least once per month each course is run for the two major time-zones. The Lead Instructor should audit at least one course per month to ensure quality of instruction. Courses must be posted at least 1 week prior to the run date to allow for adequate signups. The Lead Instructor should track the number of courses run and number of students who attended monthly through their School Tracker.
Instructor Supervision The Lead Instructor must actively work to ensure that an adequate number of instructors are available to run the school's courses. The Lead Instructor must ensure that instructors schedule courses as required, run the courses to a high standard and meet the minimum attendance requirement of assisting or leading a course of instruction at least once per month. The Lead Instructor must counsel instructors who fail to meet these minimum standards or who no-show to courses they have committed to instructing.
Instructor Training The Lead Instructor is responsible for supervising assistant instructors and training Instructors for courses within their school or this can be delegated to a Senior Instructor. This includes teaching new Instructors on how to use lesson plans, the S7 Google drive, surveys, the course mission file (if applicable), and posting courses and graduations. The Lead Instructor must also keep a list of active lead instructors to display who is fully qualified to teach each course.
Instruction The Lead Instructor is required to instruct courses just like any other Instructor. The minimum expectation for participation is to assist or lead instruct one course per month.

Senior Instructor

The Senior Instructor is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) assigned to oversee a course, or series of courses, and also assists the Lead Instructor in their day-to-day responsibilities. This position is also referred to as a Section Leader. Schools are not required to appoint Senior Instructors. Assignment only depends on the scope and size of a School. Senior Instructors report to their Lead Instructor.
