Definition

An Extended Leave of Absence (ELOA) is a planned absence from the Regiment for a period that is determined by the type of ELOA being applied for. Once approved, troopers are removed from all primary and secondary billets and placed on the ELOA roster.

Types

There are 3 types of Extended Leave of Absence:

  • Regular ELOA: Regular ELOA counts as negative days towards time in service. It lasts for 45 days and members may request an extension that must be approved by the Chief of Staff or their designate.
  • Medical: Medical ELOA: Medical ELOA does not count as negative days towards time in service. It lasts for 90 days and extensions are not permitted.
  • Military: Military ELOA does not count as negative days towards time in service. It lasts for 300 days and members may request an extension that must be approved by the Chief of Staff or their designate. Personnel on Military ELOA are still eligible for their statutory promotions (PFC-CPL). These will be posted on return from ELOA.
