Extended Leave of Absence (ELOA)

  1. Who can apply for ELOA:
    • Members at the rank of Private First Class and above are eligible for ELOA.
  2. Types of ELOA:
    • Regular ELOA:
      • Counts as negative days towards time in service.
      • Effective for 45 days.
      • Approved and posted by Battalion Staff.
      • Members may request an extension that must be approved by the Chief of Staff.
    • Medical ELOA:
      • Does not count as negative days towards time in service.
      • Effective for 90 days and extensions are not permitted.
      • Approved and posted by Battalion Staff.
    • Military ELOA (MELOA):
      • Does not count as negative days towards time in service.
      • Effective for 300 days and all
      • MELOA requests must be approved by the Chief of Staff.
      • May request an extension that must be approved by the Chief of Staff.
      • Personnel on MELOA are still eligible for their statutory promotions (PFC-CPL).
        • Posted on return from ELOA.

  4. Requesting an Extension:
    • Requests for extension of ELOA should be submitted using the ELOA Application Form
      • Specify Extension Request and the reason.
        • Chief of Staff or their designate will contact these members directly if a more detailed reason is necessary.
  5. Requesting Return to Duty:
    • Request return from ELOA using the Return to Active Duty Form
    • Specify the section/squad they wish to return to in the Requested Position field.

Processing ELOA

  1. Regular & Medical ELOA Requests:
    • Battalion Command Staff of the trooper requesting ELOA processes the request by approving/posting the ELOA using the ELOA Report.
  2. Military ELOA Requests:
    • Battalion Staff replies to the ELOA Request, @ing the Chief of Staff for approval.
    • Once approved, Battalion Staff of the trooper requesting ELOA processes the ELOA request by approving/posting the ELOA using the ELOA Report.
  3. Processing Military ELOA Requests:
    • Battalion Staff replies to the ELOA Request, @ing the Chief of Staff for approval.
    • Once approved, Battalion Staff of the trooper requesting ELOA processes the ELOA request by approving/posting the ELOA using the ELOA Report.
  4. Processing ELOA Extensions:
    • S1 Command Staff will file an ELOA Extension. When this is approved by the Chief of Staff, the designated S1 command staff personnel will update the S1 ELOA tracker. Extension days begin on the day the extension is approved.
