Development Command Launched Game Development Process

The Development Command is the organization responsible for the identification, planning, launch and support of new Areas of Operation in the 7th Cavalry Regiment. This page lays out the process for game sustainment and development operations conducted by the DEVCOM Lead and Support Coordinators.

Intent

The intent of the DEVCOM 1iC is to ensure there is a structured and repeatable process for the successful sustainment and development of games which become new Areas of Operation in the 7th Cavalry Gaming Regiment. This shall be achieved by the development of game’s content with our secondary departments delivered by the DEVCOM Lead and Support Coordinators. By utilizing a clear and publicly declared process all chains of command, including secondary and regimental departments can engage with the Commander’s intent and ensure that the process undergoes continuous improvement as we learn from experience game-to-game. The DEVCOM 2iC and DEVCOM Leads are accountable to the DEVCOM 1iC for achieving his intent.

Game Sustainment

After the intensity of a game launch fades, the enduring “business as usual” aspects of Cav life begin to set in. To combat boredom and retention losses, the DEVCOM team will begin to engage RTC, S3, S7, MPs (SAC), NCOA and ODS in order to develop leaders whilst retaining a heavy focus on Recruitment which remains Priority 1. The Weekly Status Report evolves to become the Development Report post on the 7Cav Forums, updated by the DEVCOM Lead weekly, and supported by the Lead Support Coordinator by a response. The report shall consist of:

# Report Element Details
1 Executive Summary The top-3 insights that senior leaders “need to know” about the game.
These are not just metrics, they are usually important points for requesting review, support, approval or intervention, limited to a sentence.
2 Operational Tasks The DEVCOM Lead confirms the roll-call is complete, and summarizes any PAFs such as number of transfers in, transfers out, ELOA out, ELOA return, discharge or other.
The DEVCOM Lead confirms the details of the Section Practice hosted that week.
The DEVCOM Lead confirms details of any disciplinary action required in-week including AWOLs.
3 Unit Health The DEVCOM Lead confirms unit size, growth trend and any insights related to morale.
4 Sustainment Plan The DEVCOM Lead confirms steps taken to continue to recruit aggressively, as well as develop leaders.

This is supplemented by a Lead Support Coordinator (or Delegate) response:

# Report Element Details
4 Support Executive Summary The top-3 insights that senior leaders “need to know” about the support to the game.
These are not just metrics, they are usually important points for requesting review, support, approval or intervention, limited to a sentence.
5 Recruitment Pipeline The Support Coordinator confirms the metrics associated to the Recruitment Pipeline. This includes how many recruits are in each stage, and what efforts were made last week / are planned next week for external-events for recruitment purposes.
6 Infrastructure The Support Coordinator highlights any Infrastructure (S6/IMO/Discord/WAG etc) topics that are being addressed or need to be.
7 Engagement Content The Support Coordinator highlights any Engagement (RTC Boot Camp, S3 Operations, S7 Training) topics that are being addressed or need to be.
8 Leadership Training The Support Coordinator highlights any Leadership training (MP-SCA, NCOA, ODS) topics that are being addressed or need to be.

This is reviewed by the DEVCOM 2iC to incorporate into the monthly Department Report, and any issues are escalated on-sight to the DEVCOM 1iC without delay.

Conclusion

This DEVCOM Launched Game Development Process serves as a descriptive guide to the DEVCOM scope of sustainment and development operations, and the fifth key event in game development in the 7th Cavalry Gaming Regiment.
