He was assigned 1-7 CAV Battalion Commander in November 2019. He was promoted to his current rank in October, 2020. He has also served with distinction as the Officer-In-Charge of the S7 department, which he founded himself, and is the lead instructor for our Officer Development School. 	The Regimental Commander of the 7th Cavalry Regiment takes great pleasure in presenting the Brigadier General Krazee Lifetime Achievement Medal to Colonel Rip Tharen for his steadfast loyalty, dedicated and exceptional meritorious service, and above all his commitment to the very spirit of the 7th Cavalry Regiment since 19 March 2017. Colonel Tharen has served with distinction in his several stations though out his career in the 7th Cavalry. As the Commander of 1st Battalion he has spent countless hours shaping and guiding the Battalion, constantly insuring that members all the way down to the trooper level are informed, empowered, and engaged with is vision for 1-7. He is constantly approachable, level-headed, and fair towards all members of his Battalion. He has attended over 300 operations for Arma 3, and has acted as the officer in charge during those operations more often than any other officer within the Battalion. He has also served for multiple years with distinction as the OIC for the S7 Department (formerly S3), further shaping course development within Arma 3, as well as helping mold new officer candidates as the ODS Lead. His leadership and devotion to the 7th Cavalry Regiment set the standard for all officers and bring great credit to himself and the 7th Cavalry Regiment as a whole. On 15 February 2016 he was assigned as Officer in Charge of the IMO, responsible for all 7th Cavalry IT assets. In July of 2017 he oversaw the transfer of all 7th Cavalry assets from Gameservers to OVH, and due to his expertise, the Regiment saw little to no down time or loss of services. Colonel Treck has dedicated almost half of his total time on this earth to the 7th Cavalry. Throughout that time, he has always kept the Cavalry's best interests at heart, and has provided excellent technical advice and skill. Colonel Treck has also been a confidant and advisor to the Regimental Commander and many of his fellow brethren past and present, and has always been a man to call upon in times of need. Upon completion of Basic Combat Training, he was assigned as an 11B Infantryman in B/2-7 CAV. By June of 2012, he was promoted Corporal and had completed a number of specialty schools including Airborne School. He also was assigned as a clerk in the S1 Branch. In January of 2020, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry and assigned as the Reserve Officer in Charge. He was promoted to his current rank in July of 2020.
